Nissan Safety Shield® 360 - Bert Ogden Nissan in McAllen, Texas

In the fall of 2020, Nissan announced that it would be making its advanced driver assistance system, called Nissan Safety Shield® 360, standard across all trim levels of 10 major models. Per leading safety advocates, such safety suites greatly reduce crashes, even for less experienced teen drivers.

What Is Nissan Safety Shield® 360?

The Nissan Safety Shield® 360 is a broad collection of driver-assist safety technologies. Included in this range of technologies are Blind Spot Warning, Rear Automatic Braking, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Departure Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, and High Beam Assist. The automaker’s goal is to give drivers 360 degrees of active driving assistance to help avoid collisions with pedestrians and other vehicles.

What Do These Technologies Do Under Proper Conditions?

  • Blind Spot Warning can identify vehicles that have entered your blind spot.
  • Rear Automatic Braking can detect stationary objects — and apply the brakes as necessary — when your car is moving in reverse.
  • Rear Cross Traffic Alert can warn you of vehicles approaching from either side when backing out of a parking space or driveway.
  • Lane Departure Warning can notify you when you begin drifting from the lane without signaling such a lane change.
  • Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection can apply brakes when you do not react in time to vehicles and pedestrians ahead, thus helping you to avoid or reduce the impact of frontal collisions.
  • High Beam Assist can switch to low beams from high beams automatically when approaching traffic.
  • What Vehicles Come Standard with Nissan Safety Shield® 360?

Currently, 10 Nissan models come standard with Nissan Safety Shield® 360. These models include the Nissan Sentra, Nissan LEAF, Nissan Maxima, Nissan Kicks, Nissan Rogue Sport, and Nissan TITAN. In addition to the 2021 Nissan Rogue, Nissan plans to add the driver assist tech suite as standard equipment on three more models.

Nissan leads the way in safety in both the sedan and SUV segments. In each of their respective classes, the 2020 Nissan Sentra and 2021 Nissan Rogue have the most standard safety features.
