Why Your Car Battery Keeps Dying | McAllen, TX
Your car battery is essential to a proper startup process. Without it, you simply cannot ignite your engine. Similarly, the car battery in your Nissan model relies on a running engine to recharge so that it’s ready to start the car the next time around. The circle of life…but for cars.
If your car will not start or has trouble starting, chances are there is something wrong with the battery.
It is very possible that your battery is slowly draining energy or is just not recharging effectively. Here are some questions to ask when assessing the cause of your dead battery.
Were the lights left on, inside or out?
If you left your headlights on and there is not an automatic shut-off feature when you turn your vehicle off, this is likely the cause of your dead battery. Simply jumpstart the car, drive it around for a bit, turn it off, and try starting it again. If this was the cause of the dead battery, you shouldn’t need to worry about battery maintenance or replacement.
Similarly, if you accidentally left a door slightly open (like if it was not shut all the way) and the interior lights stayed on, you will likely come back to a dead battery. Apply the same practice to see if you can fix the issue.
Has it been super hot or cold outside?
Excessive heat (or lack thereof) can drain your battery like no other. We are no stranger to high temps here in McAllen, Texas, but we’ve also had our share of unwelcome storms as of late. It’s possible your battery could die because of these extreme temperatures, but note: Healthier batteries can withstand these temp issues; if yours cannot, it may be time for a replacement.
What does your battery look like?
